Youth Services
Advisory Committee

ADVISORY COMMITTEES
The SEELB comprises the District Council areas of Ards, North Down, Castlereagh, Down and Lisburn.
In each of the five areas there is a range of statutory/controlled youth provision through Centre Based Youth Work, Outreach and Area Youth Work Projects, Training Programmes, Activity and Events Programmes and Outdoor Education Centres.
Each controlled youth centre, area and outreach project has an advisory committee which comprises representatives of the local community with a proven interest in Youth Affairs.

The Advisory Committee is a local forum, representative of the local community, which seeks to address issues and concerns regarding young people and also ensure that youth provision responds to the needs of young people in the area.

Role of Advisory Committees
To advise the South Eastern Education and Library Board and its Officers on the management and development of the Centre/Project and Curriculum offered including promoting participation and personal development of young people towards full citizenship and an optimum quality of life.
Advisory Committees can be contacted through the local youth office.

DISTRICT YOUTH COUNCILS

The Youth Section is committed to the involvement of young people in all aspects of management and delivery of the Service and has focused on the development of Youth Councils and Youth Fora in the five District Council areas of the Board.

Through local Youth Councils young people are encouraged to have a say in youth affairs at a local and national level.

This provides valuable opportunities for young people to, enhance their confidence and personal development, contribute to Youth Service developments and to have their voice heard around issues that impact on young people’s lives on a daily basis.

Local Youth Councils can be contacted by writing to the secretary care of the local divisional youth office.
