BBC Newsreader, Mr Noel Thompson and SEELB Chief Executive, Mr Jackie Fitzsimons, joined Governors, Staff , Pupils and parents of the school on Tuesday 22 January 2002 to officially open the new Extension.

The Ceremony tookplace as part of the Open Night at the school.

SEELB Chief Executive Mr Jackie Fitzsimons stated “This new extension to Derryboy
Primary School demonstrates the Board’s continuing commitment to enhancing the learning environment for children in its schools. I am sure that this improvement to the facilities will be warmly welcomed by the school’s governors and staff, by the parents and pupils”

The Principal of Derryboy Primary School, Mrs Judith Harper, expressed delight at the new extension – “This is an important day in the history of Derryboy Primary School. The South Eastern Education & Library Board and everyone involved in the project should indeed be very proud. This new extension is greatly appreciated by everyone associated with the school”
