TECHNOLOGY AND DESIGN TECHNICIANS

Two Technicians are based at The Technology Centre located at Board Headquarters, Dundonald Headquarters providing support for the Technology & Design (T&D) subject area.

Sidney Murphy (Principal Technician)
Systems and ICT(CASS)

Jonathan Chrimes (Senior Technician)
Manufacturing and ICT (T&D)

Support is provided through Training Course Provision at The Technology Centre and regular contact either through school visits or increasingly through the use of ICT. This latter aspect of communications will offer many new learning opportunities within this subject area and should enable better technical support to be provided.

Support, dealing with a wide range of issues, is offered in response to Identified Needs of school-based Technology & Design technicians. This support endeavours to address many useful and important issues including:

Health and Safety
Resource Management
Software Applications
Computer Control
Component Recognition
Internet and E-mail Awareness
Operating Systems
Maintenance of Machinery/Tools

Centre based course provision continues. The sharing of ideas between all participants is encouraged and has proved to be an enhancing experience.

Many of the post primary schools in the Board's area have Technology and Design technicians with a wide variety of skills and experience which increasingly has a bearing on children's learning experience. With continually Changing Technology it is more and more essential to endeavour to keep up to date with the many changes which relate to the support of the Technology and Design curriculum.
