At June 2002, the signs below adhere to current Health and Safety Standards, but may be subject to change. It is the responsibility of anyone using this site to ensure the current status of ALL Health and Safety signs. The
signs below are for illustrative teaching purposes only.
The use of safety signs within school Technology and Design departments is important in helping raise safety awareness of pupils, technicians and teachers. The signage, and the warnings they contain, can help reduce risk of injury incurred when using specialist equipment, materials and processes, and should be adhered to at all times. Categories There are three main categories of signs used within Technology and Design departments. These can be easily recognised by the use of different colours and shapes, and all convey appropriate actions and warnings to be taken.
Mandatory Safety Signs This particular category of signage simply means compulsory and that the actions conveyed in the signage must be carried out at all times. This category of signage should be placed at all heavy-duty woodwork, metalwork and plastics equipment within the Technology and Design department.
Hazard Safety Signs This
particular category of signage is used to help warn of the potential
dangers encountered, and that caution should be taken at all times where
this signage is implemented. This category of signage should be placed
at all PCB units along with appropriate mandatory signage, and where
the compressor and flammable liquids cabinet are each situated.
Safe Condition Safety Signs This
particular category of signage is used to indicate an action that is
safe to take. This category of signage should be placed at all emergency
stop buttons fitted around the rooms within a Technology and Design
department.
