WORK
EXPERIENCE
It is important that pupils are provided with a variety of opportunities
to gain insights into the world of work as this will support the
development of their knowledge and understanding. Such experiences
should allow pupils to: -
• become
more aware of the general requirements of work in terms of attitudes
and behaviours
• gain greater insight into local and global employment opportunities
• make more realistic assessment of their suitability for arrange of
occupations
• better understand the qualification requirements of particular employment
sectors
•
observe and experience the demands of “real work”
• apply skills developed within taught classes
A range of approaches can be taken including : -
• Industrial
visits – visits
to a places of work designed to allow pupils gain greater
insight into the world of work
• Speakers representing occupational groups enhance understanding
•
Ex-pupils – can provide “pupil friendly” information
on jobs
•
Mini companies – opportunities to experience a range of company “roles”
•
Work experience – see
SEELB Work Experience policy document
•
Work placement – longer
term experience designed to assist pupils gather knowledge and evidence
in order to meet the requirements of
a specific qualification e.g. AVCE or Vocational GCSE
•
Industry days – in-school
work-related experience delivered by an external provided
