| What
is an Extended School?
An
Extended School provides a range of services and activities,
often beyond the school day, to help meet the needs of children,
their families and the wider community. Extended schools
will engage in collaboration and
partnership
with neighbouring schools and statutory, voluntary and
community sector organisations operating in the local community
to provide these services.
Examples of extended services include:

Breakfast
Clubs, After School Clubs, Breakfast & Homework
clubs, sport , drama, arts

Delivery
of specialist services on or near the school - Health & SS
-
Family
support – parenting skills, ICT skills
-
Providing
the wider community with access to facilities – ICT,
sports, etc.
The
Extended Schools Programme
As
part of the Children and Young People’s Funding Package £10m
of funding per annum for the next two years will be allocated
to schools across Northern Ireland to deliver Extended
Services. 75 Schools in the SEELB will participate
in the programme and they will receive fundingbased
on a number of factors including the number of pupils enrolled
at the schools.
