About the Board

YOUTH SERVICE

The Board has a statutory responsibility under Article 37 of the Education and Library (NI) Order 1986 to provide adequate Youth Services for its area. Through its Youth Committee the Board has addressed this responsibility by the provision of specialist youth facilities and the support of youth organisations in the Voluntary Sector of the Youth Service.

Based on the principles of the social and personal development of young people, through an informal education process, the "Youth Service" provides a support framework for young people to fully realise their potential and maximise their unique talents and abilities. On the basis of community ownership and responsibility, the Service has achieved and continues to develop the following:
  • The identification of youth needs
  • The promotion of social inclusion
  • The implementation of a range of support services to meet identified needs
  • The development of a comprehensive training service
  • The participation of young people in the development and delivery of the service at all levels
  • An unprecedented level of cross community contact involving both adults and young people
  • The stimulation of Sport, Arts, Culture, Outdoor Activities, Environmental Interests etc
  • Second chance opportunities for young people for lifelong learning (e.g. Job Skills, The Prince’s Trust)
  • An infrastructure of shared resources (personal, facilities, information).
