CRITERIA
FOR THE ALLOCATION OF MINOR WORKS/TEMPORARY ACCOMMODATION
1 HEALTH & SAFETY
Where a risk has been identified or where fire, vandalism or an emergency
has occurred and the school cannot function in the absence of such provision.
This criterion is sub-divided as follows:-
(1) health and safety risks to children which are non-manageable
(2) health and safety risks to adults which are non-manageable
(3) health and safety risks to children which are manageable
(4) health and safety risks to adults which are manageable
The manageability of risk is assessed by the Board's Health and Safety
Officer.
2. SPECIAL EDUCATION PROVISION
Where a new unit has been approved by the Department of Education.
3. FURTHER ACCOMMODATION FOR COMPULSORY AGE PUPILS
Where it is imperative that further accommodation must be provided to
accommodate pupils of compulsory school age.
This criterion is sub-divided as follows:-
(1) allocations to Special 'S' Schools
(2) allocations to Special 'M' Schools
(3) allocations to Primary Schools. This is applied only where excess
numbers above the agreed enrolment number are as a result of needs of
children in accessing their nearest primary school. Allocations under
this sub-criterion are based on a sliding scale of pupil numbers.
4. SCHOOL MEALS PROVISION
Where it is imperative that further accommodation must be provided in
fulfilling the duties of the Board in relation to the provision of school
meals.
5. NEEDS ARISING FROM ROOM CONVERSION
The provision of further accommodation where, on the agreement of the
Board, existing accommodation has been converted for alternative teaching
use.
6. UNSATISFACTORY ACCOMMODATION
The replacement of unsatisfactory accommodation where a health and safety
risk does not exist.
7. ANCILLARY ACCOMMODATION
The provision of ancillary accommodation where a health and safety risk
does not exist.
Minor works/temporary accommodation are allocated within the resources
available to the Board. Within these resources permanent accommodation
is considered as a first option on the basis of "value for public money".
