EDUCATION
WELFARE SERVICE
The
Education Welfare Service operates within a legal framework, assisting
the SEELB in discharging its legal obligations. The SEELB seeks
to ensure that every child and young person receives maximum benefit
from the educational opportunities on offer.
It
provides a specialist service within an educational setting using
social work skills, expertise and techniques together with detailed
knowledge of the education system.
Education
Welfare Officers are employed by the Board to provide a service
to schools, children and families and to establish effective links
between them and other relevant agencies. When cases are referred
to the service, officers assess the problem and plan suitable
intervention, which on assessment may require co-working with
other professionals, either within, or external to the education
service.
